About 1,950 participants subsequently voted in a public polling exercise. This increases the prevailing CCL fleet by 17 per cent from 64 to 75 trains. As a result, special efforts are now being made to ensure that the works don’t affect buildings with historical and architectural significance. Cantonment MRT station has been sensitively integrated with the old Tanjong Pagar Railway Station (which is gazetted as a national monument). To facilitate construction, several areas of the former railway station’s train platforms is likely to be removed. LTA and the Urban Redevelopment Authority are seeking advice from a heritage consultant and members of the heritage community on possible solutions for the affected platforms. To cater for future needs, Kim Chuan Depot will soon be expanded to almost double its capacity from 70 to 133 trains. The integrated depot will house 550 buses, that’ll allow us to optimise land use. The depot will soon be completed at the same time frame as CCL6 in 2025.
